In 1914 the property was bought by John Carmody and continued by his son John Raymond (Ray) Carmody who spent his entire working life on the family?s dairy farm.
Incorporated in the park is a lookout, which will be known as Carmody?s Lookout in honour of the Carmody family who resided in the homestead for most of the last century and boasts magnificent views of Shellharbour City. Macquarie Pass National Park
Macquarie Pass National Park preserves a section of the Illawarra escarpment. It consists of steep, densely timbered ridges and rainforest gullies, topped by a rim of superb cliffs.
Access:
Access to the park starts from the carpark at the foot of the pass on the northern side of the Illawarra Highway, or from the Mount Murray railway station on the Moss Vale - Unanderra line.
Two walking tracks are provided for great bush walking, the Cascades Rainforest Walk and the Glenview Track. The Cascades Rainforest Walk is two kilometres return and starts at the picnic area at the foot of Macquarie Pass. If you follow the 1 kilometre track you will come to the Cascades where the water falls from a height of 20 metres.
The Glenview Track is open to walkers but closed to vehicles. The track crosses a creek which, 400 metres downstream, plunges over the Cascades. It has several branch tracks through tall open forest providing the walker with the opportunity to explore other parts of the forest.
The principal stream through the park is the Macquarie Rivulet. Visitors to Macquarie Pass National Park can relax with a picnic, bushwalking, swimming or observing the beautiful stands of rainforest.
