Albion Park

Albion Park is the western gateway to Shellharbour City connecting the Southern Highlands with the coast. Albion Park owes its origin to the early land grants, one of which was an area of 2,000 acres known as Terry Meadows.  Macquarie Pass was just a packhorse track and wasn’t opened to traffic until 1898 when more than 600 people attended the official opening of the road.

The Albion Park Heritage Trail begins and ends at the Tongarra Museum (Russell Street, Albion Park) and takes approximately two hours.  Discover the rich history and see the sites and heritage buildings left behind by our pioneers.

The township is surrounded by a ‘green belt’ of rural farms and beautiful environmental destinations, such as the wetlands, Macquarie Rivulet and Stockyard Mountain.

The town offers a unique community rural feel with retail stores on Tongarra Road and supermarket at Albion Park Shopping Village. The township is vast expanding as a favoured suburb for new families. The Albion Park Chamber of Commerce host many events in the township including the Spring Ball & Street Fete, Outdoor Country Kitchen and Coopers Beer & Tucker Night in May. The Albion Park community holds tight to its agricultural ties with the Albion Park Show in January.

Tongarra Road Albion Park is also home to the Illawarra Light Railway Museum which has steam and diesel train rides throughout the bushland setting of Albion Park that the kids will enjoy. The eucalypt forest on the grounds has playground equipment, picnic benches and cooking facilities that visitors are welcome to use. 

Driving through Albion Park you cannot miss the award winning Ravensthorpe Guesthouse and Restaurant. Ravensthorpe is a very popular destination for weddings and functions. Take some time out on a Sunday afternoon to relax with high tea.
